International Week

Last week was so busy I'm still trying to catch up! We celebrated International Week at our school in addition to finishing our Polar Regions unit, going to the Aquarium, and starting our Dr. Seuss author study (check back soon for more info). Friday was our school-wide celebration of diversity and multiculturalism, we started the day with a K-2 joint worship singing songs that reminded us that Jesus loves all of us and we are all a part of God's family.

Dr. B, our administrative principal, visited and shared our devotional story. He's lived and worked all over the world as has tons of exciting stories to share, thankfully he chose a story that didn't involve snakes (I have a bit of a phobia) and the students begged him to come back soon!
After worship, we held an international show & tell in our classroom and it was fascinating to learn about all the countries and cultures that were represented or visited in just Kindergarten.
At lunch time we joined the rest of the school for a delicious potluck. We had foods from all over the world, listened to beautiful global music, and even had a parade.

In my opinion (which may be slightly biased) the Kindergarten class stole the show with their two performances, a song in Spanish and a song in Mandarin (with the PreK students)! These kiddos are so smart and talented! I especially want to thank Miss R for being an excellent Spanish teacher, Miss W for being an outstanding Mandarin teacher, and Miss K for conducting the Mandarin song during the program.

Field Trip to Shedd Aquarium

On Tuesday we went to Shedd Aquarium as the culminating event for our Polar Regions unit and we had a great time! We visited the Wild Reef, Amazon, Caribbean  Reef, and Local Waters exhibits as well as the Oceanarium, I think the kids enjoyed the Polar Play Zone the most! By the end of the day we were all exhausted, but very happy. In fact, several students asked if we could go back on Wednesday!

We also loved getting to see the Dolphin Show! Check it out!
